Auto company issues global recall of 1.43M cars over defective airbags
1.43 million Toyota vehicles have been recalled, globally.
According to a statement from the company, these cars were recalled over a possible curtain shield airbag inflator defect.
43,000 units in Japan, 495,000 in North America, 141,000 in Europe, 9,000 in China and 46,000 in other places were equipped with possible cracks in the airbag inflators.
These cracks are dangerous because they could lead to a separation of the chambers in the inflators of the curtain shield airbags.
While stating that it was not aware of any injuries or fatalities related to the latest recall, the auto company also announced that these airbags were not made by Japanese supplier, Takat.
This recall affected the 2008 to 2012 models of the Prius hybrid, Prius plug-in hybrid and Lexus CT 200h vehicles.
