Music video directors talk creative process

Watch as the two directors talk to Pulse Nigeria about their passion for creating memorable visual content.

 

Pulse Nigeria recently sat with the two directors to discuss their creative process and the changes in the artistry of creating memorable music videos.

X who’s been in the industry for almost 20 years revealed how he keeps things fresh.

“You’ve got to push yourself to not keep doing the same things and find something that’s a little different from the last time you did it,” he said.

The advent of the digital media and the obsession with social media has sprung a few changes in this industry, Moe Musa said this has worked to his advantage.

“As once an upcoming director to now being a known director in Nigeria, social media has helped me to get the client base that I need and also something of a fan base,” he said.

“Social media has been a very key part of my development as a director.”

Making reference to ‘Hotline bling’ and ‘Work’, Director X said social media helped with the “hype” of both videos.

“It’s an interesting interactions with fans”.

Director X has directed music videos for several international artists including ‘Worst behaviour’ (Drake), ‘You don’t have to call’ (Usher), ‘Gimme da light’ (Sean Paul), and ‘I’ll bee dat’ (Redman).  While Mr Moe Musa has directed music videos for the top Nigerian artistes including Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, 2Face Idibia and Davido.
