Don’t be rude, show some social Media Etiquette

Are you guilty of tagging over 100 people on a Facebook post or picture? Do you know that is wrong, especially if the person has no business with the post or picture? Except if the person is in the picture and they give you the permission to tag them in the picture/post, you shouldn’t tag people on posts.

Think about it as the “do unto others what you want others to do unto you” rule. Except if you are extremely carefree and nonchalant, you don’t want random pictures of you not looking your best all over the Internet, so why do you want that for others?

Honestly, I used to be guilty of this when I was a teenager all about social media but now I don’t. I have so many people on my social media that know noting about social media etiquette; because of this I blocked my Timeline and made sure I approve anything before it shows on my page. I don’t want my friends and followers seeing advert of refined kolanut, “Wetin consign gorimapa with showercap”?

There are also some unspoken rules about using whatsapp. Please do not add people to whatsapp groups without their permission. It is annoying and mean because if they leave, everyone gets to see it. And you don’t want to be the one that left a whatspp group.

The concept of posting inappropriate of gory images without proper warning is also rampant on social media. We should all have the habit of properly warning people about the nature of our post, to avoid causing nausea and bad moods for your followers. Simple example can be” the picture/video below is extremely graphic, viewers discretion advised”. This warning will definitely make me scroll down as quickly as possible.

Things to think about before submitting a Facebook post;

I know many people may say it’s my social media platform and I can do whatever I want. Yeah it’s a free world but we should all learn to be on our best behavior wherever we are. That includes on the Internet. Our social media page is a reflection of who we are, and you don’t want to be the person that everyone unfriend’s and unfollows because of the lack of social media etiquette.
