Pulse.ng list 3 things you should know about Alessandra Michelongelo
1. Mental Illness
Following the death of her sister, Alessandra was diagnosed of schizophrenia at the age of 20. She mostly kept to herself and expressed herself through her pastel Arts.
2. She found solace in Arts
Riccardo Bargellini, Director of visual Arts at , (a workshop for adults with disabilities where Alessandra stayed for about a decade) said that all through her years at the workshop she seemed like the most disturbed patient.
"It was immediately clear that she would be a special case, among all the workshop participants, she certainly appeared to me as the most disturbed patient. I was only allowed to collect her drawings when they were finished," Ricccardo said.
3. Her works are electrifying
Looked through all of her works and noticed a fighting electric force. Her works seems to me as if one force (human expressions) is constantly fighting for freedom, as it can be seen that most of the human expressions in her works are somewhat hidden or trapped in an architectural buildings and/or symbols.
