A city, in many ways, is defined by its achitecture.

Indeed, every city around the world has buildings and structures that are as definitive to them as it's people, and Lagos is no different.

The following structures are not just your regular buildings, but structures which define the Lagos skyline, also carrying with them some form of history and culture associated with the city of Lagos.

1. First Storey Building, Badagry: Just as the name suggests, this was the first storey building in Nigeria and it was built in 1845.

2. Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island: This building houses the Silverbird cinemas which introduced Lagos to modern-day cinema culture as we know it now.

3. 1004 Apartments, Victoria Island: Originally a civil servants quarters, the 1004 building is a very familiar sight on the Lagos skyline.

4. Civic Centre, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island: As far as reinventing the wheel goes, this building certainly did that in Lagos (and Nigeria as a whole). With its unique architectural style, the Civic Centre has become an important landmark in  Lagos.

5. NECOM House  (formerly NITEL Tower), Marina: If you're looking for the tallest building in Nigeria and infact West Africa, you just found it. This 32-storey building stands at 160m.

6. National Theatre, Iganmu: Another distinctive building on the Lagos skyline, the National Theatre which is in the shape of a military hat was completed in 1976 in preparation for the Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) in 1977.

7. The Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina: The oldest cathedral building in Lagos, this is another iconic structure on the Lagos skyline.
