Nigerian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) star Kamaru Usman has given an insight into his lifestyle in the latest GQ Hype piece.

Usman is regarded as one of the best in the Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC).

The reigning UFC welterweight gave a breakdown of how his career started and also showed off his style posing for pictures.

Speaking about his last fight against Colby Covington last November at Madison Square Garden.

Usman revealed that he came into the octagon injured which affected his performance.

He said, “I didn't throw the right until fight night, so that's why the timing was off with it.”

The 34-year-old then explained his love of the popular Nigerian music genre known as Afrobeats.

According to Usman, his love for Nigerian musicians such as Wizkid and Burna Boy stems from the fact that he played the trumpet while growing up.

He said, “I was one of those dudes where I could be the first chair any given day."

Usman started sports with football and explained how that adventure ended.

He said, “My freshman year, I was five foot two, 103 pounds.

"One day at practice he got trucked pretty hard by a much bigger kid, and “that was the end of my football career.”

Kamaru then went on to explain that his father wanted him to become a doctor.

“I was never one of those kids to say, ‘My dad doesn't love me because he didn't come to my wrestling meet.’ I knew who my dad was, and I knew he loved me.”

“Because you know parents: ‘You're going to be a doctor. You're going to be this. You're going to be that," Kamaru added.

Kamaru stated that a potential fight with compatriot Israel Adesanya who is the reigning UFC Middleweight Champion is not going to happen.

He said, “I was going to skip Israel and go fight Jan at 205.

“Because I'm pound-for-pound, I want to prove it. No matter what weight it is, I thought he was a really good matchup for me.”

Usman is regarded as the best pound of pound fighter in the UFC and is expected to return to the Octagon later this year.
