Veteran WWE star retires at WrestleMania 33

The Undertaker retired after losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33 on Sunday, April 2.

Known for his dark character in WWE, The Undertaker signed with the then World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 1990 and widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.

The 52-year-old signalled his retirement at WrestleMania 33, (WWE's leading pay-per-view) on Sunday, April 2 after losing to Roman Reigns.

He took several punches before he was pinned for his second loss at his 25th WrestleMania.

After the loss, he got up with the camera panned on him and with his applauding him, the reappeared in classic long coat and hat and began to wander around the ring in darkness.

He then took off his hat, coat and MMA-style gloves and placed them in the middle of the ring – a sign that he has ended his in-ring career.

He made his way to the long lamp, raised his arm in the air and slowly disappeared through the trap down he came from earlier.

Several wrestling stars took to Twitter to comment on the historic moment while fans also joined with the hashtage #ThankYouTaker.

Calaway began his wrestling career with World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) in 1984.

He fought with the name ‘Mean Mark’ at the World Championship Wrestling from 1989 to 1990 before he took up the name ‘The Undertaker’.

As The Undertaker, he became famous for his horror-themed character with frightening and terrifying tactics.

His character was slightly reinvented as a biker in the early 2000s before returning to his previous stunt in 2004.

He had a historic 21 straight victories at WrestleMania before losing to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX in April 2014.
