5 things you need to know about the ongoing football tournament

All you need to know about the ongoing WAFU Women’s Cup

The

1. Inaugural Edition

This is the inaugural edition of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Women’s Cup, unlike the men’s edition that just concluded its fourth edition

2. Competition Hosts

The competition will take place in West Africa country in Ivory Coast, from Wednesday, February 14 till Saturday, February 24.

3. Tournament Structure

The WAFU Women’s Cup it is a competition that permits home based players only, similar in structure to the men’s edition last year in Ghana.

There eight teams participating at the regional tournament, the eight teams are split in two groups of four each

Group A - Hosts Ivory Coast are grouped alongside Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, and Ghana

Group B - The Super Falcons are drawn alongside Benin Republic, Senegal, and Togo

Two teams will advance from each of the groups to the semi-final, the runners up of each group will play the group winners to determine the final slots.

4. Super Falcons Fixtures

The Super Falcons play their first match against Mali on Thursday, February 15 (4pm Nigerian) time, then take play Senegal on Saturday, February 17 (4pm Nigerian time) in their second group fixture, before their final group game against Togo on Monday, February 19 (4pm Nigerian).
