Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has revealed that he would prioritise promotion to the Spanish top-flight over winning the Pichichi award for the highest goalscorer in the league.

Sadiq's Almeria are in contention for promotion to the Spanish La Liga, currently seated at third on the log with 63 points from 34 matches, four points off league leaders Eibar.

Almeria have eight more matches to supplant either Eibar or Real Valladolid for one of the two automatic promotion spots to the top flight.

We have eight finals to play - Umar Sadiq

Ahead of this weekend's league encounter with Ponferradina, Sadiq said in an interview with UDA Radio that Almeria would approach each of the remaining eight matches as though they were finals.

The 25-year-old striker noted that the match against Ponferradina would be tough due to their opponent's aim of entering one of the four play-off positions in the league.

Sadiq said: "These are the last eight games, eight finals for Almería and for me. Now we only play finals and we have to move them forward. First we are going to focus on Ponferradina."

"We are visited by a rival who is fighting for the Play Off and has been showing that he is very strong. For me all games are equally important and I have the goal of winning above all else."

My aim is promotion to La Liga - Umar Sadiq on Pichichi award

Sadiq also stated that his primary target is to gain promotion to the Spanish La Liga while winning the top scorer award is secondary despite being in the Top 5 goalscorers list this season.

The Almeria striker said: "For me the goal is to get the promotion to Primera with Almería and the Pichichi is something secondary for me. Getting one of the first two places is the most important thing."

The Almeria star forward also called on the club's fans to give their full support from the stands to the players as they chase promotion.

"Tell the fans to also give their best, to give us energy from the stands to the pitch that we are going to do the same. We need your support," Sadiq concluded.

Umar Sadiq has scored 15 goals and created 10 assists for Almeria in 28 La Liga 2 matches so far this season.

He won the February La Liga 2 Player of the Month Award for scoring five (5) goals and creating two (2) assists in four matches for Almeria.

Sadiq is fifth on the list of scorers in the La Liga 2 this season, 2 goals off the leading trio of Stoichkov, Borja Baston, and Christian Stuani and one (1) goal behind fourth-placed Ruben Castro.
