Umar Sadiq gets Golden Shovel as Almeria's Best Player of the Season

Awards continue to troop in for Umar Sadiq after the Super Eagles striker made 30 goal contributions in 36 matches to help Almeria secure promotion to La Liga

Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has been chosen as Almeria's Best Player of the Season for the 2021/22 season after firing the side to promotion to the top flight.

The 25-year-old striker was duly awarded the Golden Shovel for his exploits for the La Liga 2 side, which saw them crowned champions of the Segunda division.

By winning the league, Almeria secured automatic qualification to the Spanish La Liga, returning to the top flight for the first time in seven years.

Sadiq featured predominantly in Almeria's journey to being champions, bagging 18 league goals and 12 assists in 36 league appearances for the club all season.

These incredible numbers earned the former Roma player a well-deserved Player of the Season award that was partly sponsored by the club's construction partner.

Taking to the club's official Twitter account, Almeria described the just-concluded 2021/22 season as 'a great season,' singling out the Nigerian striker for his contributions.

The tweet read: "βš’οΈ 𝘈 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘒𝘡 𝘴𝘦𝘒𝘴𝘰𝘯. πŸ’ͺ🏽 Sadiq Umar got the @AJCCoficial golden shovel as the best player of the season."

The sponsor of the award, AJCC Constructions also took to their Twitter account to praise Sadiq for winning the award.

Their tweet read: "We have reached the end of the season in style! And we have the winner of the 𝕻𝖆𝖑𝖆 π–‰π–Š 𝕺𝖗𝖔!πŸ† πŸ₯πŸ₯ Sadiq Umar! 

"Antonio, our CEO and advisor to @U_D_Almeria, presented the award during the promotion celebration at the Mediterranean Games Stadium🏟️"

Sadiq is expected to remain at the Andalusian club for the forthcoming season despite interest from other clubs. 

The 25-year-old Nigerian international was recently called up by new Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro as part of a 27-man squad to prosecute a doubleheader AFCON 2023 Qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.
