Augustine Eguavoen has released the Super Eagles of Nigeria squad list for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Black Stars of Ghana.
The list released on Friday, March 4, 2022, has 25 players on the main list with seven on standby.
The Super Eagles boss chose to omit Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi from the squad list.
Iwobi has been a key part of the Super Eagles team since he switched allegiances to the green and white.
The Everton midfielder is replaced with newcomer Leicester City loanee Ademola Lookman.
Iwobi was still part of the team to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon early this year.
The omission of Iwobi from the Super Eagles team however comes as a surprise to some Nigerians.
The midfielder is last remembered by football-loving Nigerians for receiving a red card as a substitute in the Super Eagles round of 16 elimination by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
The red card received by Iwobi means that the Super Eagles midfielder is not eligible to feature in the crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against rivals Ghana.
Iwobi has steadily improved his performance for Everton since the appointment of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
The Super Eagles will now have to battle against a Thomas Partey led Ghanaian defense without the services of Iwobi.
The Super Eagles travel to face the Black Stars at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Friday 25th March with the return leg set for the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, 29th March.
