Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers will play in the UEFA Europa Conference League final after Feyenoord booked their place in the showpiece event.
The Dutch side played a goalless draw with Ligue 1 side Marseille in the second leg of their semi-final fixture, meaning Dessers' two goals in the first leg 3-2 victory was enough to send Feyenoord through.
Feyenoord will now face Roma and Jose at the first-ever final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in Tirana, Albania on May 25, 2022.
Feyenoord came into the second leg at the Stade Velodrome knowing that they just need to avoid defeat to progress to the inaugural Europa Conference League final.
A frantic first 50 minutes in the first leg in the Netherlands saw five (5) goals scored, with Dessers' grabbing a brace in that match.
The second leg in France was much different as both clubs set up in a cautious manner, barely creating any real goalscoring opportunities.
For context, the first leg between Feyenoord and Marseille saw 11 big chances created as per Sofascore, but none was created in the second leg in France.
Feyenoord will now progress to a European final for the first time since 2002 when they hosted and won the UEFA Cup in a 3-2 final victory over Borussia Dortmund.
Roma will also be playing in their first European final in 32 years, their last being the UEFA Cup final against Inter Milan in 1991.
Dessers will also be playing in his first major European final of his career despite having a quiet game on Thursday night.
The 25-year-old Nigerian international was featuring for the 12th time in the Europa Conference League for Feyenoord this season, looking to add to his tally of ten (10) goals.
However, the Super Eagles striker failed to register any shot on or off-target for the entire 90 minutes he spent on the pitch, having only one (1) shot blocked off by the Marseille defence.
Little came off for Dessers on the night as he won only one (1) of three (3) attempted dribbles, lost 14 of 20 duels, and posted a passing accuracy of only 68.4% on the night.
The KRC Genk-owned player tried to influence proceedings as a provider though, laying off two (2) Key Passes for his teammates but none resulted in a goal.
The Nigerian striker remains on top of the Europa Conference League goalscorers chart with 10 goals. He will battle with his closest challenger, Tammy Abraham on nine (9) goals in the final at Tirana.
