Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro has revealed the real reason why he will not be taking charge of the Super Eagles.

Peseiro was announced as Gernot Rohr's replacement in December, but NFF Technical advisor, Augustine Eguavoen was appointed as interim head coach for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

However following a promising display at the just concluded AFCON, the NFF has now back out on the agreement.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick and his advisors have decided to keep faith with Eguavoen even going as far as retaining his technical crew.

In yet another surprise twist in this managerial saga, Peseiro claims that he had never agreed to take over the national team.

He also revealed that there were disputes over finances and a contract was never signed.

He made this known via a tweet from his official Twitter handle:

The statement reads:

After several weeks of negotiations, during which several news came from the Nigerian Football Federation that I would be the coach of their national team from the end of the AFCON, a fact that I never confirmed these were not materialized by disagreements over contractual clauses and finances

Jose Peseiro

It is surprising news because the NFF claimed in December that he agreed to take over the national team.

Augustine Eguavoen and Emmanuel Amuneke must ensure the Super Eagles qualify for the World Cup in Qatar later in the year.

The Super Eagles face off against the black start of Ghana in a two-legged playoff in March.
