Saudi Arabia have a talented group of players ready to compete at the top level. Despite being obvious underdogs, the prospect of facing the likes of Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski has not swayed their belief that they could cause an upset in Qatar.

Saudi Arabia's road to Qatar

Saudi Arabia had to fight for World Cup qualification in an Asian group that included Japan, Australia, Oman, China and Vietnam. They performed excellently throughout the qualifying round, finishing top of the group. There were memorable performances along the way, including defeating both Australia and Japan at home.

Saudi Arabia's recent World Cup performances

Saudi Arabia has qualified for six World Cups including this edition in Qatar. Their best performance at a World Cup came in 1994 when they managed to get into the round of 16. At the last World Cup, the Saudis cashed out in the group stage but managed to win the last game against Egypt

Salem Al-Dawsari

Al-Dawsari is a tricky winger with an eye for goal. He scored the winner against Egypt and was one of few to really standout at the last World Cup in Russia.

Saudi Arabia's Coach

Herve Renard arrived with a big reputation thanks to his achievements in Africa. After former Saudi Arabia boss Antonio Pizzi endured a disappointing spell in charge that culminated in his sacking in 2019. 

Renard had a slow start but things picked up and he led them to the top of their qualifying round while laying an emphasis on youth and progressive football.
