After losing Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea splashed £71.6m- a world record for a goalkeeper-for Kepa from Athletico Bilbao.
But Twitter users were not impressed after he conceded two goals in the first half of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Arsenal on Saturday.
“If you’re having a bad day, remember one £76.1M Kepa Arrizabalaga conceded 2 goals in 5 mins against Arsenal,” a Twitter user with the handle @ogbeni_opa said.
“Kepa is a suspect,” @Poojamedia said.
“Someone said Kepa can't even catch cold,” @JuwonOba wrote with a photo to convey his thoughts.
“Send Kepa to Vitesse @chelseafc," @_sjohnsoncfc said referencing to the Dutch club where Chelsea usually send their players on loan.
“This Kepa is just one tall with market value,” @yeankha wrote.
“£71m for this Kepa guy,” @Mourinholic a popular Chelsea fan account wrote.
“World most expensive goal Kepa can't even keep a clean sheet,” @iAdokano wrote.
“£70m for Kepa. Just a reminder United paid £19m for David De Gea. I know who I would rather,” @SimplyUtd a Manchester United fan account wrote.
“Kepa is a disgrace,” EmilioC32 said.
While many Twitter users bashed him, some other tweeted in the defence of the 21-year-old goalkeeper.
"Kepa's living under a microscope due to his worldrecord breaking fee, which is understandable, but it's wrong. He's still a young goalkeeper adjusting to a new team + league. Wait with the judging until he's gotten an fair chance to prove himself. De Gea needed it, Kepa does too,” @MaaxiAngelo wrote.
"It's too early to judge if Kepa would be a good keeper. Y'all should leave him for us,” @Rouvafe said.
“Camera straight on Kepa after the goal, but would have taken a truly world class save to stop that. He will get criticised for that, the scrutiny is part of the territory with the £71m pricetag,” @NizaarKinsella wrote.
