Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has put forward Wilfred Ndidi's name as the perfect midfield signing for new United coach Erik ten Hag.

The former English midfielder believes that Super Eagles star Ndidi has all the attributes needed to play for the Old Trafford giants, especially with the recent departure of several midfield players from the club.

Ndidi is undergoing recovery from an ankle injury he picked up towards the end of the 2021/22 season but the 25-year-old is expected to be back before the start of next season.

Scholes said: “Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi still very much fits the bill of what Manchester United are looking for.

"With just two years remaining on his contract at Leicester, it’s likely to cost significantly less than the eye-watering sums associated with him in summer past."

He is one of the best - Scholes on Ndidi

The former Manchester United midfielder cautioned that despite the Nigerian midfielder coming off two months of injury, he is still easily one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League, ranking top in most of the metrics.

“And while he missed the last two months of the season with a knee injury, he remains one of the best defensive midfielders in the game when fit," Scholes said.

"Averaging an astounding 6.5 tackles and interceptions each match and ranking in the top 7% of midfielders for aerial duels, too.”

Ndidi played a total of 2585 minutes for Leicester City last season over 32 matches, averaging 80 minutes per game for the Foxes.

Per StatBomb via FBRef, Ndidi has averaged 3.98 tackles, 2.53 interceptions, and 3.42 clearances every 90 minutes for the past one (1) year. With all figures putting him in the top 10% in the Premier League over that period.
