Nigeria to face Libya in U23 AFCON qualifier

All is set for Nigeria to begin the defence of their title when they take on Libya in the second round of qualifiers.

Nigeria’s U-23 team will face their Libyan counterparts in the qualifiers for the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

Nigeria’s dream team won the tournament in back in 2015 when Stoke City scored two goals in the victory over Algeria in Senegal.

By winning the tournament, Nigeria qualified to represent Africa at the football event of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro where they picked up a bronze medal for their efforts.

Qualification for the tournament has now started across the continent in preparation for the main event next year.

Nigeria was given a pass to the next round of qualifiers by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as they are the defending champions.

2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations

They were to meet with the winners between Libya and Gambia in the second round of qualification.

However, Gambia have pulled out of the tournament which means Nigeria now have a fixed date with Libya.

Nigeria will face Libya in a home and away tie scheduled for March 2019 with the winners to take on victors in the other side of the draw which includes  Seychelles, Sudan, Kenya, and  Mauritius.

The eight winners in the third round of the qualification series will all advance to the competition scheduled to hold in Egypt from,  Friday, November 8 till Friday, November 22, 2019.
