Golden Eaglets beat Togo 3-1 to book semifinal spot

Nigeria's U-17 men's national team known as the Golden Eaglets defeated their counterparts from Togo 3-1 in their second group game on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

The Golden Eaglets defeated the Black Starlets of Ghana 4-2 in their opening group game and did not relent against Togo.

The team led by Nduka Ugbade recorded their second group victory at the 2022 West African Football Union (WAFU) age-grade tournament.

The Golden Eaglets in two group games now have two victories, scored seven goals and conceded three.

Golden Eaglets beat Togo

The Golden Eaglets went ahead in the 11th minute through Kevwe Iyede. In the 23rd Precious Williams scored Nigeria's second from a ball through to him by Ebube Okere.

Togo improved in the second half and with about 15 minute left to play scored when Komi Ahouankpo blasted in a free kick from 30 yards.

Substitute Light Eke scored his second goal of the tournament as the Golden Eaglets third of the game to seal the victory.

The result means that the Golden Eaglets are through to the semifinals and with another victory they seal their place at the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations (AFCON).
