The Golden Eaglets did not qualify for the U-17 AFCON last year and will aim to finish among the top two in their group to progress to the semifinal of the competition.
The zonal competition which is the qualification for the AFCON tournament is called the WAFU B U-17 AFCON.
The Golden Eaglets are in group B, while Group A consists of tournament hosts, Niger Republic, Togo, and Ghana.
The regional tournament will see two countries advance to the semifinals for groups A and B but only the overall winners will progress to the AFCON tournament which is scheduled to hold in Tanzania next year.
The team led by will begin their campaign to qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup against western African rivals according to the new qualification format introduced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The WAFU B U-17 AFCON qualifiers will kick-off in Niamey, Niger Republic, starting from Sunday, July 2.
The Golden Eaglets will aim to emulate the and qualify for the U-17 AFCON and FIFA U-17 World Cup after missing out of the last editions.
