After losing one game and winning the other, Nigeria's U-20 Women needed to avoid a loss for a spot in the quarterfinals.

But it was the Chinese who took the lead through Linyan Zhang who netted in the 41st minute.

The diminutive Zhang turned her Nigerian marker in the box before firing past Falconets goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to give the Asians the lead just four minutes before the break.

With that scoreline, China were on their way to the quarterfinals and knowing that they were on their home, the Falconets pushed hard in search of an equaliser in the second half.

As the Falconets pushed, China goalkeeper Huan Xu was proving to be a stumbling block as she pulled off a couple of saves.

She had little, however, to do as Rasheedat Ajibade turned home Aishat Bello’s cross at the near post in stoppage time to spark huge celebrations from the Nigerian bench.
