Bayelsa Queens are the 2019 champions of the Nigeria Women’s Premier League (NWPL) after coming up tops at the Super Four tournament that held at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

In the end, Bayelsa Queen got a 2-0 win in the final over defending champions Nasarawa Amazons without breaking a sweat in the one-sided encounter.

Although they were not the favourites ahead of the final, the Restoration Girls were calm and composed in possession as they dominated the game.

They took the game straight to Nasarawa Amazons from the kickoff but could not find a breakthrough in the first half.

It was in the second half that their dominance paid off just three minutes after the restart through Igwe Uzoamaka

Uzoamaka found the back of the net with a fierce strike from outside the area.

Bayelsa Queens continue to dominate the game and in the 55th minute, they doubled their lead through Joy Bokiri who capitalised on a mistake from Nasarawa Amazons captain Ibrahim Mariam to finish past Uche Chukwu in goal.

At the end of 90 minutes, it was a relief for Bayelsa Queens who got their hands on the title, the first since 2007.

The girls knew what they were up for as the club had not won the league for more than 11 years,” Bayelsa Queens Head Coach Moses Aduku told Pulse Sports.

And that is why we have been here since Monday. We resumed training on 27th of December while others were enjoying New Year celebrations.
