Joshua’s Nigerian root has been a topic of conversation since his epic win over Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday, April 29.

The 27-year-old was born to Nigerian parents, Jonathan, his dad who is half-Irish and his mum Yetunde.

Joshua met with Arunma Oteh, who is the Treasurer and Vice President of the World Bank in London.

The former Director General of the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shared the photo of their meeting on Twitter.

“Anthony Joshua, unified world heavyweight champion. Proud as he said discipline of Nigerian parents is key 2 success,” Oteh wrote alongside the photo.

The boxer has always embraced his Nigerian root; in the past, the British boxer has credit Nigerian dishes like Egusi and Pounded yam for his strength.

He spent six months at Mayflower Private School, Ogun State, an experience he said taught him discipline which has gotten very far in his career.

“It was a change and I thought I was going to go for the full course: 5.30am in the morning, up fetch your water, put like an iron in your water to warm it up. Your clothes had to be washed and ironed,” the boxer told in April.

“It wasn't an issue but I wasn't prepared. It was a good discipline.”
