<a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.ng/search-results?keywords=Tinubu%20sacks">President Bola Tinubu</a> has approved the removal of Chief Pius Akinyelure, the chairman of the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. and <a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulse.ng/search-results?keywords=Kyari">Malam Mele Kyari</a>, the group chief executive officer.

Kyari was replaced by Mr Bashir Ojulari as Group CEO and Akinyelure was replaced by Mr Ahmadu Kida as non-executive chairman, Mr Bayo Onanuga, his spokesman, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Tinubu also removed all other board members appointed with Akinyelure and Kyari in November 2023.

Mr Adedapo Segun, who replaced Umaru Ajiya as the chief financial officer last November, has been appointed to the new board.

Six board members, non-executive directors, representing the country’s geopolitical zones are: Bello Rabiu, North West; Yusuf Usman, North East, and Babs Omotowa, a former managing director of the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG), who represents North Central.

Tinubu also appointed Mr Austin Avuru as a non-executive director from the South-South, David Ige as a non-executive director from the South West, and Henry Obih as a non-executive director from the South East.

Mrs Lydia Jafiya, permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, will represent the ministry on the new board, while Aminu Ahmed will represent the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

The President invoked the powers granted under Section 59, subsection 2 of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, adding that all the appointments were with immediate effect.

He said that the board’s restructuring was crucial for enhancing operational efficiency, and restoring investor confidence.

Tinubu added that it would also boost local content, drive economic growth, and advance gas commercialisation and diversification.

The President handed out an immediate action plan to the new board; to conduct a strategic portfolio review of NNPC-operated and Joint Venture Assets.

He said this would ensure alignment with value maximisation objectives.

Since 2023, the Tinubu administration has implemented oil sector reforms to attract investment. Last year, NNPC reported 17 billion dollars in new investments within the sector.

“The administration now envisions increasing the investment to 30 billion dollars by 2027 and 60 billion dollars by 2030.

‘The Tinubu administration targets raising oil production to two million barrels daily by 2027 and three million daily by 2030.

“Concurrently, the government wants gas production jacked to 8 billion cubic feet daily by 2027 and 10 billion cubic feet by 2030.”

Tinubu charged the new board to elevate NNPC’s share of crude oil refining output to 200,000 barrels by 2027 and reach 500,000 by 2030.

The new board chairman, Kida, from Borno, is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he received a degree in civil engineering in 1984.

He also obtained a postgraduate diploma in petroleum engineering from the Institut Francaise du Petrol (IFP) in Paris

He started his career in the oil industry at Elf Petroleum Nigeria and later joined Total Exploration and Production as a trainee engineer in 1985.

Kida became Total Nigeria’s Deputy Managing Director of Deep Water Services in 2015. Last year, he became an Independent Non-Executive Director at Pan Ocean-Newcross Group.

Apart from his oil industry career, Kida is a former basketballer and the president of the Nigerian Basketball Federation(NBBF) board.

Ojulari, the new NNPC Ltd. Group CEO, hails from Kwara.

Until his new appointment, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company.

Renaissance Africa Energy Company recently led a consortium of indigenous energy firms in the landmark acquisition of the entire equity holding in the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), worth 2.4 billion dollars.

Like Kida, Ojulari is also an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He worked for Elf Aquitaine as the first Nigerian process engineer to begin a stellar career in the oil sector.

From Elf, he joined Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd in 1991 as an associate production technologist.

Apart from working in Nigeria, he worked in Europe and the Middle East in different capacities as a petroleum process and production engineer, strategic planner, field developer, and asset manager.

In 2015, he became the managing director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO).

Tinubu thanked the old board members for their dedicated service to NNPC Ltd.

He commended them for their efforts in rehabilitating the old Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, and wished them well in their future endeavours.

<h2>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Professor Aisha Maikudi as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UNIAbuja), now officially renamed Yakubu Gowon University.</h2>

According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy,&nbsp;the decision was accompanied by the dissolution of the university’s governing council.

Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of the institution, while Professor Lar Patricia Manko will serve as the Acting Vice Chancellor for six months.

She will not be eligible to apply for the substantive position when it becomes available.

Similar leadership changes have taken place at other federal universities, including the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu was removed as Acting Vice-Chancellor and replaced by Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam, also on a six-month tenure.

In the reshuffle, General Ike Nwachukwu has been reassigned from UNN to serve as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, while Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo has been named the new Pro-Chancellor of UNN.

Other appointments include Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi as Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja and Senator Sani Stores as Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education.

The shake-up follows growing tensions at UNIAbuja.

Reports indicate that 43 professors wrote an open letter to President Tinubu, urging his intervention in what they described as an unfolding crisis at the institution.

Allegations of irregularities in Maikudi’s appointment had sparked controversy, with some faculty members claiming the selection process was flawed.

Tensions escalated on January 29 when members of the UNIAbuja Senate staged a protest walkout during a meeting.

Insiders revealed that concerns were raised over an alleged unprovoked attack on Senate members by vigilante groups in December 2024.

The situation worsened when a professor attempted to introduce these issues into the meeting’s agenda but was silenced, leading to the protest.

“The fraudulent selection process that paved the way for Aisha Maikudi to succeed herself as substantive Vice Chancellor remains a major issue,” a source revealed, according to Sahara Reporters.

“The large presence of vigilantes around the Senate Chambers further signaled the unrest.”

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Benue State.

The decision, announced Wednesday, November 20, was attributed to Salami’s disregard for Ministry of Education directives, which exacerbated the institution's ongoing leadership crisis.

In a statement signed by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the presidency cited Salami’s suspension of FUHSO’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Innocent Ujah, without due process.

The action, deemed illegal by the Ministry of Education, led to directives for Ujah’s reinstatement, which Salami refused to obey.

“Despite the Federal Ministry of Education's call to revoke the unlawful suspension, Engr. Salami refused to comply and resorted to abusive and threatening behaviour towards Ministry officials, including the Permanent Secretary,” the statement said.

The ministry had previously objected to the council’s appointment of former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ediga Agbo, who was no longer a university staff member, as Acting Vice-Chancellor.

In a November 1 letter, the ministry ordered Ujah’s reinstatement to complete his tenure, which ends on November 6, 2024.

The situation escalated when Prof. Ujah presided over a Senate meeting on November 5, leading to the election of Prof. Steve Obekpa Abah as Acting Vice-Chancellor. Salami, however, dismissed these developments, insisting Ujah’s suspension remained valid.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Prof. Innocent Ujah remains suspended and lacks any legal authority to convene a Senate meeting,” Salami said in a November 6 statement.

President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Governing Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.

Tinubu also approved the removal of Prof. Bernard Odoh, the new Vice Chancellor, and Mrs Rosemary Nwokike, the registrar of the university.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Onanuga explained that the council was led by Amb. Greg Mbadiwe included five other members: Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, Mr Amioleran Osahon, and Rtd. Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin.

He said that the sacking of the governing council and officials followed reports that the council illegally appointed an unqualified vice-chancellor without following due process.

He also said that after the controversial appointment, the Federal Government stepped in to address tensions between the university’s Senate and the governing council of the 33-year-old institution.

The presidential aide said that the government expressed concern over the council’s apparent disregard for the university’s governing laws in its selection process.

Similarly, Onanuga said Tinubu also approved the removal of Mr Ohieku Muhammed Salami as the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the governing council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue state.

He stated that the decision followed Salami’s illegal actions, including suspending the Vice-Chancellor without following the prescribed procedures.

Onanuga said that despite the Federal Ministry of Education’s call for the unlawful suspension to be revoked Salami refused to comply.

” Instead, he resorted to abusive and threatening behaviour towards the Ministry’s Directors, including the Permanent Secretary.

” The Federal Government reiterated that the primary responsibility of university councils is to ensure the smooth operation of university activities in accordance with the act establishing each university.

” Tinubu warned the councils not to create distractions in their universities as his government is focused on improving the country’s education standards,” Onanuga said.

The President also nominated Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu as the Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi as the Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole as the Minister of Industry, Idi Maiha as Minister for the newly created Livestock Development Ministry, Yusuf Ata as the Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as the Minister of State Education.

<h2>President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday approved new appointments in the Aviation and Aerospace Development sector of the economy.</h2>

His media aide, Ajuri Ngelale stated that the appointments were part of the president’s determination to bring Nigeria’s civil aviation to world-class standards for the well-being of fliers and stakeholders.

While some heads of agencies in the sector were replaced, one was suspended and awaiting investigation by the EFCC.

In the new arrangement, Olubunmi Kuku replaces Kabir Mohammed as Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

Umar Farouk replaced Tayib Odunowo as Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.

Alex Badeh Jr. takes over from Akinola Olateru as the Director-General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency now has Prof. Charles Anosike as its Director-General. He takes over from Prof. Mansur Matazu.

The Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Capt. Alkali Modibbo hands over to Joseph Imalighwe as the Acting Rector.

Imalighwe’s appointment is pending the appointment of a substantive rector following the NCAT Act (2022).

The Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu was suspended from office to enable the EFCC to conduct an unfettered investigation into his activities as director-general.

Other senior officials of the NCAA are also to be investigated by the EFCC.

Nuhu was replaced by Capt. Chris Najomo as the acting Director-General.

The president also approved a diligent process by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development to recruit a substantive vice-chancellor and other principal officers for the Abuja-based African Aviation and Aerospace University.

Tinubu anticipates that the new leadership across the aviation sector will uphold the safety, convenience, and comfort of the Nigerian people as primary and sacrosanct in all of their administrative activities.

Ngelale stated that because of the cost of underperformance in the sector, the president demanded the immediate establishment of world-class policy design, implementation, and regulatory framework to reposition aviation to align with his “Renewed Hope’’ agenda.

He added that all of the president’s directives took immediate effect.

Why Binani was sacked: This development comes barely twelve hours after it was reported that the executive committee of the APC in the state has rejected the female lawmaker as coordinator of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in the state.

Binani was also accused of singlehandedly selecting members of the Council.

Tinubu replaces Binani: While some reports claimed Binani resigned on Thursday, November 03, 2022, Pulse learned that Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, subsequently replaced Binani with a former Adamawa state deputy governor, Martin Babale.

A recent letter to that effect signed by Simon Lalong, the Plateau State Governor who doubles as the Director-General (DG) of the Tinubu/Kashim Shettima PCC, reads: “By way of this letter, I’m pleased to formally convey your appointment as Adamawa state Coordinator of Tinubu/Kashim Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.

“This appointment is fitting and appropriate, given your impressive political achievement and the exemplary leadership you have demonstrated as a major pillar of the party.”

Meanwhile: The APC presidential candidate, will hold his campaign rallies in Imo and Anambra States on Mondays despite the controversial sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South-east region.
