A Malawi Defense Force aircraft carrying Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine others has gone missing, according to a statement from the president’s office.
The aircraft reportedly disappeared from radar after departing from the capital, Lilongwe, on Monday morning.
Scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport in the north of the country shortly after 10:00 local time (11:00 BST), the aircraft lost contact with aviation officials, prompting President Lazarus Chakwera to initiate a search and rescue operation.
In response to the incident, President Chakwera has cancelled his planned flight to the Bahamas.
