Flip or clamshell phones are steadily making a return with LG and Samsung launching phones targeting global consumers that are still attracted to those type of phones.

Just last month, Samsung launched the Galaxy Folder flip phone in South Korea priced at KRW 297,000. It was announced to go on sale this month in Korea.

In similar fashion, LG also launched a new flip phone, the Wine Smart, earlier this month announcing that it would be released later this month in select markets including France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Kazakhstan, and Japan followed by other regions.

The advent of smartphones effectively killed off the era of feature phones and flip phones, with their big screens and QWERTY keyboards have greater appeal amongst consumers. This resurrection – which may be shortlived – could be just what the flip phone needs to make a strong comeback.
