The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State has declared Gboyega Isiaka as the winner of the governorship primaries conducted in the state today, December 8.
The state branch of the party went ahead with the polls despite a statement released today by the PDP National Secretary, Olisa Metuh declaring that the election in Ogun had been cancelled.
The statement reads:
A press release from the headquarters of the People's Democratic Party is claiming the Ogun governorship primaries have been cancelled. The release is published below.
The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cancelled the conduct of the Governorship Primary election in Ogun state. For the avoidance of doubt, the NWC hereby states that it did not authorise any governorship primary in Ogun state.
Consequently, any such exercise held in Ogun state is hereby declared null and void and of no effect. A new date will be communicated for the primaries.
Isiaka, a former member of the Labour party won the primaries by 705 votes as against the 150 votes garnered by his major opponent, Kayode Amusan.
