A group, the Christian Northern Nigeria Political Forum (CNNPF), has expressed support for the aspiration of Alhaji Aminu Jaji, for the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.
National Coordinator of CNNPP, Garuba Mohammed, made this known at a news conference on Tuesday in Kaduna.
Jaji, a member-elect to represent Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency of Zamfara, was Chairman, House Committee on National Security, Intelligence and Public Safety in the 8th Assembly.
Mohammed also advised the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu, to form a government of national unity to heal wounds and reunite Nigerians.
“The entire members of the Christian Northern Nigeria Political Forum (CNNPF), has resolved to support the candidacy of Aminu Jaji as the next speaker of the House of Representatives in the 10th legislative assembly.
“Because he has demonstrated trust, honesty, kindness, love, humility and character.
“Jaji is coming into the race for the Speakership of the House with the overriding interest to run an inclusive House, where national unity, peace and development will take the front stage.
“His vision is to ensure an abiding cooperation among honourable members and chart the course for a mutually respectable relationship with the Executive, without compromising the independence of the legislature,” Mohammed said.
He added that Jaji had promised to ensure best practice in carrying out legislative business and fairness to all legislators under his leadership, irrespective of political parties, gender, religion or tribes.
He said Jaji had most importantly promised to work for Nigeria with the fear of God.
He appealed to members of the House of Representatives in the forthcoming 10th Assembly to support Jaji for the speakership because of his past and current contributions to humanity and his personal attributes.
“He is a man who has strong tolerance for people of other tribes and religion,” the CNNPF coordinator said.
He recalled that Jaji singlehandedly sponsored the forum’s programme in December, 2022 in Kaduna to bring about religious harmony in Nigeria.
He advised the incoming administration of Tinubu to put in place policies that would accelerate national development.
He said the administration could bequeath a united and prosperous nation to generations to come by mobilising the country’s resources to ensure fundamental break.
He expressed concern on the utterances of some politicians and national figures over the outcome of the just concluded general elections, especially those calling for Interim National Government.
He said such politicians should desist from making unguided statements and work for the country’s unity and progress.
“The CNNPF is hereby congratulating Tinubu, President-elect and his running mate, Sen. Shettima of the APC on their landslide victory at the February 25, 2023 presidential election.
“It is a well-deserved victory but they should know that the position carries heavy responsibilities.
“We urged the incoming administration to respect Federal Character principle as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution and give equal attention and appointments to all Nigerians.
He said this should be done “without ethnic, gender or religious bias because every part of this nation has something to contribute towards its development,” Mohammed stressed.
