Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has advised Lagosians to re-elect Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
Fayose while speaking on the outcome of the 2023 presidential election on Arise TV on the evening of Wednesday, March 1, 2023, said Lagos is the economic capital of Nigeria and has a lot of challenges.
He, therefore, advised Lagosians to reelect the state governor, Babajide Sanwoolu despite the fact that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party has a candidate in the Lagos governorship race.
Abdul-Azeez Adediran popularly known as Jandor and Funke Akindele, a popular Nollywood actress are the PDP flagbearers in the forthcoming governorship election.
But Fayose thinks the duo do not have the credentials to govern Lagos and its challenges as governor and deputy governor of the state.
The governor described them as ‘people doing theatre’, saying it’s better for Lagosians to reelect the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Fayose said, “Lagos is like the head of a fish, not Abuja. Abuja is the capital of our country, but the economic capital of Nigeria is Lagos. I said it here from today, I step aside because I want to be talking like a leader in this country, To me, Buhari is now lame duck he is on his way out. But let me tell you, the PDP candidate in Lagos, to me, they are people doing theatre. Lagos business is a serious business, there a lot of challenges in Lagos, So I enjoin everybody in Lagos to return Sanwo-Olu.”
This is not the first time a PDP chieftain would oppose Jandor’s governorship ticket in Lagos.
Last year, during the build-up to the February presidential election, governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state dumped Jandor and openly endorsed his Lagos counterpart and APC candidate, Sanwo-Olu for second term.
The River state governor said he supported Sanwo-Olu’s re-election because “he is doing well.’
