How Nigerians voted in the 2019 presidential election

Atiku Abubakar's challenge wasn't enough to stop Muhammadu Buhari's second term in office.

Unlike Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) sealed a second term in office with the 2019 presidential election.

And unlike Jonathan, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenged the result but ultimately lost at the Supreme Court.

It was Atiku’s second loss in a presidential election, and fifth overall, including primaries, since he started eyeing the presidency in 1992.

71 other candidates were on the ballot for the election, but the third-place finisher ended up with 110,196 votes, 0.4% of the total votes cast.

84 million Nigerians registered for the 2019 contest for Nigeria's top seat, but only 28.6 million (34.75%) participated on election day.
