If you are a fan of Narcos, the Netflix drama based on the hunt of Colombian drug king Pablo Escobar, you will soon be able to build your own international crime syndicate in a new game based on the show. The game is called Narcos: Cartel Wars.
The game is being setup by FTX Games via a collaboration with Gaumont Television, which produces Narcos for Netflix.
The game is set to launch in September and it will be free, offering in-app purchases. The game will also be released to coincide with the season 2 debut of the show.
Narcos, starring Wagner Mauro as Escobar, is set to return to Netflix on September 2, 2016 and this 10-episode season will cover the following 18 months of the drug cartels rise and fall from power, based on law enforcement efforts to bring Escobar and his crew to justice in the late 80's.
Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal also star in Narcos as real-life DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña.
Narcos: Cartel Wars will place players as an up-and-coming cartel lieutenant, guided by characters from the show. As players build their organizations, they will have to decide between utilizing raw power, gathering raw power through loyalty, or a combination of both.
Player must also form alliances with each other in order to create cartels and will go to war for territory, profit and respect.
“’Narcos’ is about a lot more than violence, money and power,” said Aaron Berndtson, FTX Games’ head of business development, according to Variety. “We really wanted to explore the moral ambiguity from the show, where right and wrong are subjective. We’re very excited to put these choices into the player’s hands.”
