Pandemonium erupted in the Jeddo Community of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, as a father of nine children, identified simply as Charles, committed suicide.
It was gathered that the gory incident happened in the early hours of Monday, October 7, 2024, in the Jeddo community of Delta State. The man allegedly took his own life after drinking an insecticide.
Sources who are privy to the incident stated that the said Charles, who lived in the Jeddo community of Okpe Local Government Area, drank the insecticide at his residence and proceeded to his in-law’s place at nearby Ugbokodo, where he eventually gave up the ghost.
Before the tragic incident, Charles, a member of the Jeddo Community Vigilante, was said to have had a heated argument with his wife. During the confrontation, he desperately pleaded with her not to leave him, expressing deep distress. Despite his emotional appeal, the wife reportedly refused to listen to his pleas.
The disagreement is believed to have escalated the tensions that led to his actions. Family members and close associates have suggested that the argument played a significant role in his mental state before the incident.
Though the exact nature of their dispute remains unclear, the communication breakdown seems to have been a contributing factor in the heartbreaking decision Charles made shortly after the argument.
Although the late Charles did not leave behind any suicide note, empty bottles of the insecticide were reportedly discovered in his pockets. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of filing this report as he did not pick up his calls when our correspondent reached out to him.
