Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has voiced his discontentment regarding the recent appointments made by President Bola Tinubu.
Dokubo’s remarks came in response to controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Gumi’s call for the removal of Nyesom Wike as the minister in charge of the Federal Capital Territory.
In a widely circulated video, Dokubo expressed his concerns, stating that Abuja, the nation’s capital, was constructed using oil money predominantly sourced from non-northern regions.
He emphasised that Abuja was initially intended to be a neutral ground, a place belonging to no specific ethnic group.
Dokubo, visibly agitated, went on to criticize the appointments made by President Tinubu, asserting that they displayed a clear bias, giving an impression that Lagos was the sole state in the country.
He lamented that the appointments were skewed and failed to represent the diversity of the nation.
“I campaigned for Ahmed Bola Tinubu because of his past achievements, not because of his religious beliefs. The recent appointments are dangerously one-sided, as if Nigeria is only Lagos,” Dokubo passionately expressed.
Dokubo highlighted a perceived discrepancy in the appointments, specifically addressing the issue of a "Muslim-Muslim ticket," suggesting that this was not the basis upon which many Nigerians cast their votes.
He urged the President to reconsider his appointments, noting the need for balance to ensure that all regions and religious affiliations are adequately represented.
“The President must recognise that Nigeria is a diverse nation. The appointments should reflect this diversity and not favor one particular region or group,” Dokubo added vehemently.
