A Kano State High Court has issued a temporary order preventing Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from representing himself as a party member.
The court has also directed Ganduje not to oversee the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) activities.
This decision follows a request by Ibrahim Sa’ad, who represents two executive members of the APC Ganduje ward in the Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area.
The plaintiffs, Laminu Sani (assistant secretary) and Haladu Gwanjo (legal adviser), who were among the nine ward executives who suspended Abdullahi Ganduje two days earlier, filed an exparte motion, which Justice Usman Malam Na’abba granted on Tuesday.
The court has ordered four involved parties, including the APC, APC NWC, APC Kano State Working Committee (KSWC), and Abdullahi Ganduje, to maintain the existing state of affairs as of April 15, 2024, until the substantive case is heard and decided on April 30, 2024.
Justice Na’abba has also granted the request to prevent the APC Kano State Working Committee from interfering with the decision made by the Ganduje ward executives, which was legally and properly endorsed by a two-thirds majority of the executives in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Why Ganduje was suspended
Pulse reported that Ganduje's suspension stems from accusations of bribery against the ex-governor by the Kano State Government.
According to the ward officials, the suspension will remain in effect until the former governor addresses the allegations against him.
This development raises questions about the APC's leadership dynamics and may influence Nigerian political dynamics in the 2027 elections.
