The legal team of Amotoi Global Services Limited has demanded that Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Company immediately retract and apologise for a “false, malicious, and defamatory statement” made about their clients or face legal action.
This demand follows Aiteo’s announcement that it was terminating its security surveillance contract with Amotoi due to allegations that the company was involved in illegal oil bunkering activities, as reported by TheCable.
Amotoi’s lawyers expressed profound shock and deep disappointment over Aiteo’s manner of announcing the contract termination.
This was stated in a demand letter signed by Anthony Enyindah of Lighthouse Law Partnership and addressed to Aiteo’s Group Managing Director. Enyindah criticised Aiteo for not consulting his clients before making their decisions.
He says, “Our clients have no quarrels if you desire to terminate any contractual relationship with them, provided you do so in terms of the contract.
“Our clients, however, take serious exception to the false, malicious, and defamatory statements made by your company against our clients as your company’s reason for terminating the contract.
“Our clients have always been at the disposal of your company. It is therefore curious that your company could not as much as communicate with our clients to know what defense (if any) our clients may have to these most heinous and grievous allegations.”
Enyindah highlighted that despite the serious accusations against Amotoi, security officials have not arrested or questioned any of its employees.
He accused Aiteo of being biased and making “far-reaching, irresponsible, and potentially damaging statements” without giving Amotoi, a long-time business partner of Aiteo, an opportunity to defend itself.
The lawyer argued that the earlier accusations against Amotoi for criminal activities and oil theft were orchestrated by a competitor of his client, which Aiteo either unwittingly adopted or possibly with malicious intent.
Enyindah highlighted that Aiteo’s allegations persist and have reached numerous business contacts of Amotoi, asserting significant global damage to his client’s reputation.
He demanded that Aiteo publicly retract or apologise for its claims within a week, warning of potential legal consequences otherwise.
