Elizabeth Holmes Is Reportedly Living It Up In California While She Awaits Trial

As you've surely read, watched, or heard at this point, Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and nine counts of wire fraud last June. So...she should probably be in prison now, right?
Is Elizabeth Holmes In Jail?
Is Elizabeth Holmes In Jail?

Not quite. Holmes and her ex-boyfriend Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani ( also the former COO of Thernos), who was also charged, pleaded not guilty and were released on $500,000 bail.

So where is Holmes now? Funny you should ask...

Holmes is living her best pre-incarceration life in San Francisco.

Apparently, the threat of facing up to 20 years in prison (!!) isn't really affecting Holmes' quality of life. She's engaged-yes, as in to be married-to hospitality heir William "Billy" Evans, whose M.I.T. signet ring she wears "on a necklace," per Vanity Fair .

The duo also lives together in a "luxury apartment," along with Holmes' husky or, in her words, "wolf-dog." As for a job, Holmes is reportedly "trying to start a new company and seeking funding for it," a source told ABC News .

For everyone asking about Holmes's social media. It's private. But here are a few screenshots of her and her fianc we found online. (I personally find it crazy that she's being charged with 11 felony counts, thousands of people's lives were harmed, and she's as happy as can be.) pic.twitter.com/6nYfjltLt4 - Nick Bilton (@nickbilton) February 21, 2019

In August, Holmes and Evans attended Burning Man looking like they didn't have a care in the world, which is ironic given the fact that just a few days after the festival, an email to remaining Theranos employees announced that the company was officially dissolving.

Most recently, Holmes was spotted at a workout class at Barry's Bootcamp with her hubby-to-be just hours before appearing in court on April 22.

It appears Holmes won't have to contemplate how she'll look in an orange jumpsuit in jail anytime soon; When Holmes visited a federal court in April, she learned there's still no word on an official trial date.

"For a while, the defense [Holmes' legal team] was arguing that they needed more time, that there were delays in the discovery," Carreyrou said during CNBC's Power Lunch on Monday. "In the latest joint briefing by the government and the defense, the government is saying now were ready to go to trial and we want the judge to set a trial date, but the defense is saying they need more time."

But wait...what about those SEC charges?

Yes, Holmes and Balwani were charged by the SEC in March 2018 for lying to the public about their finger-prick blood test. Okay, it was technically for raising more than $700 million from investors through an elaborate, years-long fraud in which they exaggerated or made false statements about the companys technology, business, and financial performance, according to a release .

But those charges have since gone away for Holmes because she settled for $500,000 and agreed not pursue a leadership position in a public company for 10 years, among other items. Balwani not so much-he plans to fight the SEC's charges in court.

And is Elizabeth Holmes still wearing her black turtleneck?

Sadly, no-but she does appear to have kept her signature messy-hair look! (Because I know you were wondering!)
