Appropriate clothing on a plane is more important than we think. Our attire may be crucial not only for the comfort but also for the safety of passengers.

We often choose clothes that are comfortable, but have we ever wondered if they are appropriate?

6 things you should not wear on an airplane

Aviation industry experts explained which items of clothing we should avoid during a flight because they may expose us to unexpected risks.

1. Shorts

According to Tommy Cimato, a TikTok user who shared his travel thoughts in a viral video, shorts are the first thing we should avoid wearing on a plane. The reason is that airplane seats are not cleaned regularly, and wearing pants that end above the knees can expose us to bacteria.

2. Tight clothes

Flight attendant, Andrea Fischbach, quoted by The Sun, advises to avoid clothes that fit tightly to the skin. They may cause cramps, swelling and, as a result, pain. As he emphasises, freedom of movement in the seat and maintaining blood flow is extremely important, especially during long flights, where there is a risk of deep vein thrombosis.

3. High heels

Andrea also advises against wearing high heels on flights. The reason is safety issues, as well as practicality during transfers at airports. High heels can make evacuation difficult if necessary and puncture rescue slides.

4. Leggings

Christine Negroni, an aviation expert and author of a book about the most mysterious plane crashes in the world, warns that leggings, especially those made of artificial fibers, may prove dangerous in the event of a fire on board the plane. She recommends wearing clothes made of natural fibers such as cotton.

5. Flip-flops

CNN aviation analyst, Mary Schiavo, advises avoiding wearing flip-flops when traveling. In the event of an evacuation, they may make it difficult to move quickly and even lead to falls.

6. Jeans

Flight attendant, Katie Ellen, recommends avoiding stiff, tight jeans on flights because they can cause your legs to swell. High-waisted pants during a cruise can also be dangerous for the proper functioning of our intestines because they can press on them.
