Flavia Alvaro gave birth to a healthy baby boy after infertility treatment in Ukraine.
In a few months she will celebrate her 64th birthday and today she is called the oldest mother in Italy.
Little Sebastian was born on June 3 by Caesarean section at the Versilia Hospital in Lido di Camaiore and weighed almost 2 kg at birth.
The doctor who took care of the librarian told Corriere della Sera that he did not know about her trips to Ukraine, where there is no upper age limit for infertility treatment.
"She organised it completely independently, and I only found out about it after the fact," he said, calling his patient a "stubborn woman."
Flavia Alvaro is Italy's oldest mother
When Flavia arrived in Kiev last fall, Russian forces continued their attacks. In the chaos of war, she got lost in the capital and the authorities of the Ukrainian clinic had to call her hospital in Italy to ask where she was. Alvaro's first pregnancy ended in miscarriage.
According to media reports, the woman broke the previous record of another Italian woman - singer Gianna Nannini, who gave birth to her daughter Penelope at the age of 56.
