Superstitions have been with us since the dawn of time. According to them, following certain rules may attract good luck or bad luck, or threaten with other consequences.

They say money doesn't buy happiness, but it's hard to live without it, so many people, just in case, keep items in their wallets that symbolically attract banknotes and prevent them from flowing away too quickly.

There are some interesting beliefs that are still often repeated, because this is what our mothers and grandmothers did.

According to these superstitions, you will attract or repel wealth

Many of these beliefs, passed down from generation to generation, concern finance, and some of them are still practiced today.

1. Cat whiskers

This is one of the beliefs that you still encounter today. Cats were considered animals with magical powers, and a cat's whisker placed in a wallet was supposed to attract cash. Importantly, it should be found and under no circumstances should it be snatched from the animal. In the latter case, it will bring more harm than good.

2. Carp scales

We probably all know this superstition and it is still very popular. Just put a dried Christmas carp scale in your wallet to ensure you have plenty of money for the next year and protect it against theft.

3. A penny for luck

This popular belief encourages people to pick up a penny from the ground and hide it for good luck. Another version says that when giving someone a wallet as a gift, be sure to put a penny in it so that there is no shortage of money in it.

4. Four-leaf clover

Everyone has heard about the alleged powers of the four-leaf clover. Putting it in your wallet is also supposed to ensure success in terms of finances.

5. A wallet without holes

Another belief is to never keep money in a damaged purse because it will "escape" through the holes. If any appear, they need to be sewn up as soon as possible, preferably with gold thread, or the wallet should be replaced with a new one. This is to avoid losing funds.

6. Red wallet

It is said that it is best to choose wallets in this colour. Red symbolises energy, courage and is supposed to bring good luck. According to Feng Shui, cash in a red purse stays with its owner longer.

7. Huffing

According to this superstition, it is enough to breathe on the money you encounter three times to attract another one. Of course, it should be found and not taken from someone by deception or theft, because then you can expect bad luck.

8. A banknote with an eighth note

The eight symbolises success in finance, so it is worth having a banknote with as many eights in the serial number as possible in your wallet.

9. Keeping your purse on the floor

This is a common belief that you should not put handbags or backpacks on the floor because it may cause money to escape from your wallet.

10. Keeping shoes on the table

The above superstition, associated with attracting bad luck, can also be perceived through the spectre of possible bankruptcy.
