The festival started with Jumat prayers on Friday, October 14, 2016.

The event will last for a week and it is a showcase of the best of Epe culture. The Olu-Epe of Epe told press that the festival is important to the traditional Epe community, a predominantly Muslim community.

Kayokayo literally translates to 'eating to satisfaction', it is a New Year celebration that has expanded beyond cultural displays, youth parade and other displays to include health awareness and screening.

The Oba said: "King Kosoko in 1851 laid the foundation of Eko-Epe with his coming with 1500 people. We have always commemorated that. And tomorrow, we will be at the marine side, in boats, to mimic how Kosoko came to Epe. It is the display of culture at its best."

The king also added that the new wave of unity between both Epe communities - Eko-Epe and Ijebu-Epe as well as infrastructural development from state government has exposed Epe to potential investors.

The chairman of the planning committee, Alade Saliu-Okulu, said that Saturday, October 22 is the grand-finale and that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and many more dignitaries will be in attendance.
