A 39-year-old man has been charged with several offences after he flew abroad without a plane ticket.
German authorities are investigating how the Norwegian managed to board two planes and fly without tickets, a journey of almost 1,300 km.
The passenger passed security at Munich Airport on August 4 despite not having documents authorising him to fly. He then overtook travellers with boarding passes and boarded the plane to Hamburg.
The crew quickly realised that the passenger did not have a reserved seat on board. He was then detained by police and released after questioning. The next day he repeated the "trick."
He flew without a ticket. He cheated the system twice
Undeterred, the traveller repeated the same stunt the next day, again passing through security without a ticket and overtaking other passengers who were boarding a Lufthansa flight to Stockholm. This time, the man managed to get a free seat and flew about 1,300 km to the Swedish capital.
The cabin crew only became suspicious when he asked for a return flight to Munich immediately after landing.
A spokesperson for Munich Airport told Business Insider that authorities are investigating how the man "was able to bypass the automated boarding pass check before the security checkpoint."
The shocking security breaches have prompted investigations by both Munich Airport officials and the Bavarian state police.
The perpetrator now faces charges of trespassing and evading payment for the cruise.
This is not the first time this has happened.
In February, an American woman managed to fly from Nashville to Los Angeles on American Airlines without a boarding pass.
That same month, a man bypassed security at Gatwick Airport in the U.K. and boarded a flight to Copenhagen, Denmark. He was detained before takeoff but no charges were brought.
