From May 11 to May 15, 2023, Hilda 'Baci' Bassey accomplished an impressive feat by cooking for 100 hours and 40 minutes, surpassing Lata Tondon, who was the Guinness World Record holder for cooking for 87 hours, 45 minutes in 2019.
The 27-year-old Nigerian chef completed the longest cooking marathon in history by putting in an extraordinary effort cheered by millions of Nigerians.
After a month of reviewing the evidence, Guinness World Records announced on Tuesday, June 13 that Hilda Baci is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.
An official GWR adjudicator, Mark McKinley, said in a video posted by the organisation that Hilda fulfilled all conditions set for the record. She cooked at least two items throughout, and also submitted the number, name and weight of each item cooked.
Even though Hilda Baci originally cooked for 100 hours and 40 minutes, GWR only awarded 93 hours and 11 minutes because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks.
The new record holder replied to the GWR tweet, "This is the best news ever omg omg omg thank you so much."
Congratulations Hilda Baci!
