The world loves its liquor, but some folks more than others.
In Nigeria, it's not uncommon to find a drinking joint within at least a 20km radius of every neighbourhood particularly in the south, leading us to wonder just how much liquor we consume as a country.
To this end, we decided to widen the scope to see what the liquor consumption is like in other parts of the world.
According to statistics provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the chief drinkers came from the region of the former Soviet Union (no surprises!) with Belarus topping the list and Russia coming a close 4th.
Europe was the leading continent with nearly all the countries on the list coming from the region. Also, Nigeria ranked 41st on the list coming just after Canada.
These are the top 20 countries that consume the most alcohol in the world.
