Can you pour soup down the toilet? Every day, many people face the dilemma of what to do with leftover food after a meal.
They often choose the easiest route - flush them down the toilet. This seemingly harmless activity, however, can lead to serious problems, both for our homes and the environment.
Can you pour soup down the toilet?
Soups, although they seem liquid and harmless, may contain fats that settle on the pipe walls, causing them to gradually clog. This means that after some time the drain may become blocked, resulting in a failure that is difficult to repair.
You should also remember that food leftovers may attract cockroaches and other vermin.
Pouring soup down the toilet can also negatively impact the environment. Soup, yoghurt and other food leftovers, along with water, go to sewage treatment plants. There, they can disturb the water purification process and, in extreme cases, lead to river pollution.
To avoid this situation, it is better to simply freeze food leftovers or pour them into jars and pasteurise them. You can later use such preserves at any time when you don't have dinner at hand.
City residents can also donate leftover food to charity organisations that will give it to those in need. Food must, of course, be good and suitable for consumption.
