Polo, often called “The Sport of Kings,” has long been a symbol of class and competition.

This exciting sport, known for its strategy, teamwork, and horsemanship, has been a hallmark of elegance for centuries. But polo is more than just thrilling matches and stylish events—it's also a major player in high-profile charity gatherings, blending luxury with philanthropy around the globe. And on Saturday, July 20, 2024, the UK witnessed another fantastic blend of sport, luxury, and charity as Windsor hosted the Access Bank UK Polo Day at the Guards Polo Club.

Just like the most prestigious polo events, such as the Argentine Open Polo Championship, Dubai Polo Gold Cup, Cartier Polo events, and the US Open Polo Championship, the Access Bank Polo Tournaments are a shining example of the grace of polo combined with a resolute commitment to driving impactful social change for child education across Africa.

In July 2023, Access Bank, in partnership with Fifth Chukker Resort and other affiliates, hosted the ‘Access Bank Polo Day’ at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor, United Kingdom. The tournament featured two exciting polo matches to raise funds to construct 100 classroom blocks in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

The 2024 event at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor represented a watershed moment with the launch of 60 new classrooms.

Roosevelt Ogbonna, FCA, CFA, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, at the event, emphasised the importance of the project, saying, “These classrooms will serve as more than just buildings; they will be sanctuaries of hope, where the dreams of thousands of children will be nurtured, and futures will be forged.”

This initiative intends to double enrolment at the Access Bank Fifth Chukker School, which has previously provided quality education to nearly 14,000 children.

The Access Bank Fifth Chukker School is a nod to the bank’s holistic approach to education, with a school curriculum designed to provide a well-rounded education, including STEM training focusing on ICT skills such as coding and robotics, sports development, arts and crafts, and vocational skills. Access Bank's involvement in polo continues to significantly impact the world of sport and philanthropy.
