An Indian teenage lovers identified as Rajveer Singh and Shabnam Ali, were rescued at the nick of time after they attempted to commit suicide in public after their parents refused to accept their marriage, police in that country say.
According to Hindustan Times, the teenagers, a Hindu and a Muslim, frustrated at their parents rejection of their union based on their religious beliefs, cut their own throats and were in the throes of death when they were rescued and rushed to the hospital.
The report say:
"The couple were found in a pool of blood, and rushed to a nearby hospital. Luckily, doctors were able to treat their wounds and are said to be in stable condition."
It was discovered that the girl cut her throat first and the boy followed her. The young man told police that they decided to commit suicide after failing to convince the parents to accept their marriage.
