Thousands of people took to the streets of London to protest against British Prime Minister David Cameron's plan to bomb Syria.

The demonstration was organised by the Stop The War Coalition, which also hosted a number of other protests across the UK.

On their event page the group wrote: ‘The UK has been bombing countries for a decade and a half, at the cost of millions of lives.

‘Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results meets Albert Einstein’s definition of madness.'

While the rally was going on near Downing Street,  #DontBombSyria was also trending on Twitter.

David Cameron recently pushed for intervention to target Isis in Syria.

He said: ‘The threats to our interests and to our people are such that we cannot afford to stand aside and not to act,’ he said.

Parliament is expected to vote on the issue next week.
