‘Black Panther’ is the first superhero film to get Oscar nomination for ‘Best Picture’

There has been a surge of firsts in the last few editions of <a id="f92e9898-f533-4dea-b663-7e48e4a70b3a" href="https://www.pulse.ng/entertainment/movies/oscar-2019-full-nominees/ls0n71b">The Oscars</a> and this year, <a id="72aff364-6e34-472e-a9a9-461a84b1e41d" href="https://www.pulse.ng/entertainment/movies/oscar-2019-full-nominees/ls0n71b">'Black Panther'</a> has made history.

Ryan Coogler’s ‘Black Panther’ has emerged the first superhero movie to get nominated for the ‘Best Picture’ category of the prestigious Oscar award.

The nomination is a first since the last 90 editions of The Oscars.

At the 2018 edition of The Oscars, James Mangold’s “Logan” became the first superhero movie to receive recognition in the writing categories.

In the same vein, ‘Black Panther’ joins “Avatar” and “Titanic” as the third-highest grossing best picture nominee ever with $700 million in domestic box office receipts and a worldwide accumulated of $1.3 billion.

The Marvel’s superhero film was also nominated for six other categories namely best costume design, best original score, best original song, best production design, best sound editing, and best sound mixing.

The Oscars nominees list was announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2018, by Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross.
