For everyone who has seen a Beverly Naya movie, one thing that can't go unnoticed is her eloquence, talent, and British accent.

It's no news that the actress stayed most of her early years and adulthood in the United Kingdom. Her decision to move back to Nigeria a few years to join the already bubbling Nollywood industry should probably be one of her best achievements so far.

The gorgeous actress visited our studio on March 9, 2020. We sat down to talk about her latest movie '2 Weeks In Lagos,' how she has been able to navigate her way around Nollywood and her famous accent.

'2 Weeks In Lagos' is a romantic movie and we think Nigerians have seen all the sides of romantic movies. So I asked her if she felt any nostalgia when she got the script for the movie.

" When I got the script for two weeks in Lagos, I really liked it. Like I instantly felt like it was a very nice script. The story is uniquely told and I loved the characters as well. Its a love story but I loved the take on the love story. I loved how everything just comes together most magically and beautifully and I think people would appreciate that about the film as well," she said.

For Naya, working with some veterans in Nollywood like Tina Mba, Shaffy Bello and Joke Silva in the soon to be released movie was a great experience for her even though she has worked with them before.

She went to give us a scoop about the roles these women played in the movie. According to her, they played roles different from their 'traditional roles' which makes it mind-blowing and interesting to watch.

Finding love in Lagos as the name of the movie implies led to my next question which was how the gorgeous actress has been able to do that since she moved back to the country.

"You know the love life has its ups and downs. I'm not going to disclose if its up and down right now. But there are some interesting characters out there so I just feel as a Nigerian woman in 21st century Nigeria, just be cautious and don't fall in love with someone married. So be careful when you are choosing to fall in love and make sure you know everything about that person," she said.

Beverly Naya said the reason she joined Nollywood was because of the passion. According to her it was either choosing between a 9-5 job in London or coming back home to join an already thriving Nollywood. Like we all know the rest is history.

I have always wanted to know how good or bad Beverly Naya's pidgin English is and this interview was the best opportunity to find out.

"The thing is I understand pidgin. I mean I understand almost everything in pidgin but its just one of those things because I'm used to English in my head. It's like a battle for me. So it's not great but for the right film. If I'm given the right amount of time because it's not an overnight thing. There is a lot that goes into it. You need a lot to get into that character," she said.

While she was saying all these all I could think of was 'This is pidgin English we are talking about o.' Well, Beverly Naya said she tries her best to interact with traders with pidgin so she doesn't get cheated.

"The thing is that if I speak pidgin, I'll have an accent. But if it comes to maybe I want to buy something, or maybe I'm dealing with a hawker, I can do it convincingly especially if I want that person not to detect my accent. Because the second they detect your accent they will be like 'Mugu don land," she excitedly said.

Despite her British accent, Beverly Naya believes it has not prevented her from landing roles in movies. 

A few weeks ago, Beverly Naya queried the media in the country for the way they stereotype women during their interviews. According to her, they would rather title an interview with female celebs with her relationship status rather than the actual content of the interview.

I asked the actress what were are reasons for tweeting about it. She explained that she didn't talk about it to spite anyone rather it was just an observation after she had granted an interview with a major media outlet.

It is no news that Beverly Naya is a huge campaigner for anti-bullying and colourism in society. She went on to give us an in-depth into the reason behind her decision to start a project like that.

"The major reason was that I am very passionate about the topic, colourism. The main reason was in 2014, I wanted to start an anti-bullying campaign and that started from me being bullied as a child and teenager. It really affected my self-esteem as I got older and became a woman I became affected by all the negativity I received. 

"So when I finally started to discover myself and find myself, it really became important to me to inspire other women to love and appreciate themselves. Because even when I was told by my family that I was beautiful it was never enough, I never believed it. So I felt if I was the voice that could allow people to know how powerful they are, then I can positively impact them," she said.

Beverly Naya has been nominated for Producer of The Year at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards billed to take place on March 14, 2020, for her documentary 'Skin.'
