A new video has shown Nollywood veteran John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu, celebrating his 62nd birthday in a hospital bed while surrounded by family.
In the video posted to his official Instagram account, the sickly actor was robed in a hospital dress sat on the bed while his family members sang the happy birthday song to him. In front of him was a cart carrying his birthday cake and some drinks and as his loved ones sang, he weakly mouthed along while holding the knife in the cake.
Okafor, evidently in discomfort, repeatedly shook his leg while trying to stay seated. His other leg, which was extended, looked swollen and in bad shape.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Okafor has found himself within the white walls of a hospital room. The actor has survived multiple near-death experiences and told the tale.
Just in 2020, the actor disclosed he was poisoned by some of his workers, allegedly in an attempt to end his life. This happened in his village in Enugu where he was beaten up in his office by his staff and poison was stuffed into his mouth. Fortunately, his dancers and boys rushed him to a hospital.
In 2022 he revealed that he was hospitalised for some days after being poisoned during an entertainment event in Abuja.
He had said, "I just got poisoned again. It seems my enemies are using me to rehearse (their powers). This time, I wasn’t poisoned in the village, I was poisoned in Abuja last week at an entertainment event. I really cannot explain how I was poisoned because it was a gathering of people, though it was not a big event," he said.
After his recent post, his beloved fans and supporters have extended their well wishes, sending prayers, birthday messages and "Get well soon" messages in his comment section.
