Aderounmu Adejumoke, the Nigerian actress who rose to fame for her role as Esther in the popular Funke Akindele series, Jenifa's Diary has died. She was 40 years old.
The actress, who was born on March 26, 1984, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, in a private hospital. The Nigerian filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi shared the news on his Instagram today, Monday, April 8, 2024.
"A family member of former star of hit series Jenifa's Diary Jumoke Aderonmu has tweeted that the budding Actress is dead. Details are still sketchy. May she find peace with her maker," his Instagram post said.
Her brother, Adeola Aderounmu confirmed the sad news in an Instagram Stories post. "You are in a better place now, my sister," he said. He also posted her obituary. A funeral service for her will be held at Owu Baptist Church, Totoro area of Abeokuta in Ogun State.
Aderounmu began acting professionally in the 2008 Tunde Kelani film Arugba where she played Princess Mobandele alongside Bukky Wright, Bukola Awoyemi, and Segun Adefila.
The news has been met with sadness from members of the industry and fans alike. "Sad!!!! @jideawobona I still asked about her. Omg. May her soul rest in peace," the actress Akindele said.
“Rest in peace Aderounmu Adejumoke...Waited hours for her cousin to delete her post and say it was a prank or a mistake but,” a friend of the deceased cousin, Oluwabanke Funmi, said in a post on X.
